Chelo’s game-winner the difference for Penncrest against Radnor


Kylie Chelo provided the fireworks for Penncrest in its come-from-behind Central League victory over Radnor Tuesday.

Chelo connected on a baseline jumper with 10 seconds to go to give the Lions a 42-41 win. The host Raiders (0-1) led by five with a minute to play before the Lions rallied to score the final six points of regulation.

Kat Mullaney netted 11 points and Grace Harding (10) also reached double digits in scoring for Penncrest (2-0, 1-0). Chelo finished with eight points and Megan Arndt chipped in with seven.

Ellie Mueller led the way for Radnor with 15 points. Brienne Williams, Missy Massimino, Sydney D’entremont and Audrey Rosenblum all tallied six points.

Marple Newtown 48, Strath Haven 45 >> Olivia Young banked a pair of free throws late in the fourth quarter and poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Tigers (1-0) past the host Panthers. Devon Adams added 13 points for Marple.

Garnet Valley 53, Ridley 33 >> Brianne Borcky, who recently committed to Drexel, scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Jaguars to victory in their season opener. Emily McAteer tossed in 11 points, Jill Nagy added nine and Morgan Falcone finished with eight. The Jags were up at halftime, 39-14.

Breanna Harrison paced the Green Raiderts with 10 points.

Springfield 53, Harriton 28 >> Jordan D’Ambrosio had 15 points to go with six rebounds and Belle Mastropietro finished with 14 points, six boards and two assists as the Cougars (2-0) won the first McNichol Bowl of the season. Carli Johnson chipped in with 10 points.

Christina Brown led all scorers with 24 points for the Rams.

Lower Merion 51, Upper Darby 38 >> Emma Blewett scored 13 points, while Hannah Asaka paired five points with six rebounds for the Royals (0-3, 0-1).

In nonleague action:

West Catholic 87, Academy Park 65 >> One night after going off for 38 points in a win over Norristown, Mahya Woodton scored 30 points in a loss to the Burrs. Shantalay Hightower tossed in 21 points for the Knights (1-2).

Sun Valley 37, Chichester 20 >> Maddie Michael scored 14 points and Abby Seasock had seven for the Vanguards.

Agnes Irwin 50, Faith Christian 30 >> Gianna Napoleon recorded six points and six blocked shots for the Owls, who led at halftime, 29-11. Katie Anderson and Elizabeth McCulty both had six points and four steals. Caryn Kelly and Mary Grace Miller scored seven points apiece.

W.C. Rustin 66, Penn Wood 49 >> Carle Andrews dropped in 20 points to go with six rebounds and three steals for the Patriots (1-1). Saleia Matthews added nine points and Jada Hutt notched seven points and 12 boards.

In the Bicentennial League:

Christian Academy 39, Plumstead Christian 24 >> Lindsay Haseltine had four 3-pointers and scored 13 of TCA’s 15 points in the opening quarter. She led all players with 18. Hannah Sareyka netted 11 points and Grace Gormley added eight for the Crusaders (3-0, 1-0).

In the Catholic Academies:

St. Basil 58, Sacred Heart 29 >> Eileen Piombino’s 14-point performance wasn’t enough for the Lions (2-2, 0-1).
