Mercury Roundup: Spring-Ford field hockey edges Unionville

Spring-Ford 2, Unionville 1 >> Kate Crist scored both of the Rams’ goals during their non-conference win over the Indians.

Ashley Della Guardia finished with six saves in the cage, beat only once by Unionville’s Maura Minter at 22:54 in the second half. Opposing keeper Madison Detweiler finished with five saves.

Perkiomen Valley 7, Pennridge 2 >> Kelly Battinger and Saige Shine each scored a pair of goals as the Vikings downed the Rams in non-conference play.

Battinger added an assist while Julia Downing, Emma Lafferty and Gabby Martina each registered solo tallies. Danielle Hamm had a pair of assists and Ashley Derrick finished with five saves.

Methacton 7, North Penn 1 >> The two-goal outings of Katy Benton and Rachel Alderfer headed the Warriors’ season-opeing win over the Maidens.

Liz Chipman (one assist), Alexa Kratz and Frankie Lucchei rounded out the Methacton scoring. It provided sufficient support for goalie Molly Frey who had an eight-day save in goal  for a Warrior unit that built a 5-1 lead in the first half.

Owen J. Roberts 2, Neshaminy 1 >> Olivia Leclaire’s unassisted score in the second half was the difference in the Wildcats’ season-opening win.

Bridget Gallagher opened the scoring in the first half, assisted by Julia Lamb. Neshaminy managed a consolation score by Peyton Ritchey while goalie Cayden Jarvis (4 saves) and the OJR defense preserved the win down the stretch. OJR held a 15-6 shots advantage.

Quakertown 4, Pottsgrove 3 >> The Falcons led 3-1 at the break, but couldn’t generate any offense during the second half on the way to a non-conference loss to the Panthers.

Katie Bean and Riley Simon each had a goal and an assist while Jayde Yorgey also scored a goal.

Upper Merion 7, Norristown 0 >> Samme Deskiewicz netted a hat trick and added an assist as the Vikings blanked the Eagles in the schools’ inaugural Battle of the Bridge.

Nitzy Urias (assist), Deann Boyer (two assists), Molly Weygand and Halle Howard all added solo tallies while Anya Waller and Anandeep Singh combined for the shutout in the cage.

Great Valley 6, Phoenixville 2 >> The Patriots had six different scorers in a non-league win over the Phantoms. Aiden Drabick had a goal and two assists to lead GV.
