Perrins, Strath Haven will be put to test

Nate Perrins has been on quite a roll and so has Strath Haven. Perrins has scored 10 times in four playoff games, which why the Panthers are in the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals where they will take on District 4 champ Athens at Hazleton Area High School Saturday (3 p.m.).

With Perrins leading the way, Strath Haven has scored 19 times in the postseason, winning a District 1 title along the way. Athens (20-1) is riding a seven-game winning streak. The Wildcats have a potent offense, too. Athens has outscored its opponents 43-2 in that stretch.

In Class 4A, it’s another lengthy bus ride for Radnor. The Raiders’ reward for beating Cumberland Valley in Hershey in the first round is a trip to Cedar Crest High School in Lebanon to take on District 6 champ State College (12-4-2) in the quarterfinals at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Raiders (18-3-2) stayed alive with a 3-2 victory over the District 3 champion Eagles. Eliot Hayes scored two goals including the winner. The Little Lions beat Norwin in overtime, 2-1, to advance to the state quarterfinals for the first time since 2011.
