Thomas saves the day for Penncrest

Liam Thomas topped off his brilliant nine-save performance by stopping a pair of penalty kicks late in regulation, and Shea Morgan converted a feed from Will Dean for the go-ahead goal 15 minutes into the second half, enabling the Penncrest boys soccer team to escape with a 2-1 triumph at Central League rival Marple Newtown Tuesday.

Randy Cropper set up Ricky Vogler’s first-half goal for the Lions (12-3-1 overall, 8-2-1 league).

Ridley 2, Haverford High 1: Riley Brown headed home Jaime Fisher’s corner kick for the game-winner with less than 10 minutes to go in the second half.

In the Del Val League:

Interboro 8, Glen Mills 0: The Bucs spread the wealth on offense, getting goals from eight players, and celebrated the outright league title thanks to Penn Wood’s loss.

Chichester 1, Penn Wood 0: Jared Sullivan notched his 11th goal of the season by depositing a pass from Chris Smarkola 15 minutes into the match, and Chris Manko made the lead stand up by turning aside nine shots for the Eagles (5-12, 5-3).

In the Inter-Ac League:

Haverford School 6, Germantown Academy 0: Connor Gregory picked apart the GA defense for four goals and five players picked up an assist, as the host Fords ran out to an early 4-0 lead.

Springside Chestnut Hill 2, Episcopal Academy 1: The Churchmen (8-6-2, 0-2-1) appeared in good shape to grab their first league win when Zach Viscusi finished off a pass from Cameron Walling to open the scoring, but the visitors responded with two goals over the final seven minutes to snatch the win.

In the Tri-State Christian Conference:

The Christian Academy 8, Atlantic Christian 0: Brit Haseltine turned in his most potent scoring effort of the season, with the junior firing in five goals, while Evan Needs contributed a hat trick and two assists as the Crusaders (12-0-1, 10-0) remained unbeaten.

In the Ches-Mont League:

Downingtown West 2, Sun Valley 1: Josh Lehrberger put the Vanguards (3-12-2) on the board in the first half, but Brendan Skwirut’s six-save night went for naught as West tallied the game-winner with 16 minutes remaining in regulation.
