Germantown Academy continues non-league success with win over North Penn
WHITEMARSH — The Germantown Academy boys lacrosse team hosted North Penn Thursday afternoon and the non-league contest was good news for the Patriots as they have had good success this season in non-league contests. GA entered with a 7-2 non-league record, but have yet to find a victory in Inter-Ac play with a 0-7 record.
Germantown Academy continued its solid non-league play as it easily got by the Knights 13-2.
The Patriots game plan for success was pretty simple as they dominated the time of possession by winning faceoffs, hounding ground balls and operating efficiently on offense.
“They possessed the ball I would say probably 85 percent to 15 percent,’ North Penn coach Rick Smith said. “It starts with the X and winning face-offs is a challenge.’
The Knights have struggled particularly with teams that have midfielder and attackmen that can make one-on-one plays and make a defense slide and step up. A pair of sophomore midfielders, Andrew Towne and Tommy Diver did a solid job of breaking down the Knight defense all game.
“Those guys are both sophomores, they both logged a bunch of time for us this year,’ GA coach Brian Grady said of Towne and Diver. “We talk about winning that one on one battle but after you win that battle you got to move the ball and that’s something that we’ve been trying to preach since day one.’
As Towne and Diver broke down the North Penn defense, James Diver and Garrett Trucksess were the main beneficiaries of the Towne’s and Tommy Diver’s efforts as Trucksess and James Diver scored three goals apiece which tied for the game high.
