Wong’s 44 points not enough to save Bonner & Prendergast’s unbeaten record

There’s only one unbeaten boys basketball team left in Delco, despite Isaiah Wong’s best efforts Friday.

Wong scored a career-high 44 points, but Bonner & Prendergast couldn’t overcome an 18-point halftime deficit in falling at Neumann-Goretti, 78-70.

Wong had 36 points in the second half for Bonner (10-1, 5-1 Catholic League). He added eight rebounds. Donovan Rodriguez kept Bonner afloat early with 15 points.

In the Central League:

Garnet Valley 71, Springfield 59 >> Carl Schaller scored 16 points, including six in overtime, as Garnet Valley survived a scare against the winless Cougars by keeping them scoreless in the extra session.

Greg Vlassopoulos led all scorers with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Neel Beniwal tossed in 18 points, and Schaller added seven assists for Garnet Valley (9-3, 5-2).

Springfield (0-12, 0-7) pushed the Jags on the strength of 12 made 3-pointers. M’khai Terry led the way with four triples for 18 points and six rebounds. Brian Ward hit three 3s for 15 points, and Cole Rhodes canned two triples for a dozen points plus five assists.

Conestoga 61, Radnor 56 >> Lewis Robinson scored 20 points, and Jack D’Entremont added 19, but the Raiders (7-5, 4-3) were undone by Stoga shooting 26-for-30 from the line in snapping a four-game winning streak.

Lower Merion 58, Marple Newtown 46 >> Tommy Gardler scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, and Joey Pettinelli paired eight points with five assists, but Marple (4-8, 2-5) was done in by 21 points from Jack Forrest in his return from injury.

Upper Darby 61, Strath Haven 44 >> Iyan Joshuasville scored a career-high 16 points late Thursday night, keying a 13-0 second-quarter run. Diby Keita and Kymir Roper added 14 each for UD (4-6, 3-4).

Ibo Pio led Strath Haven with 13 points, and Luke Edwards and Justin Morris each tossed in three 3-pointers for 11 points.

In the Bicentennial League:

Delco Christian 53, Phil-Mont Christian 52 >> Jackson Piotrowski scored 21 points, and Obinna Nwobodo (seven points) hit a free throw with 3.7 seconds left to earn DC (6-4, 3-3) the win. Jacob Bronkema added 11 points.

At the Wilmington Christian Tournament:

Christian Academy 76, Wilmington Christian 36 >> Donald Jones and Tehron Phillips scored 10 points each, and Marvin Logan, Sam Geathers and Jordan Greene all added eight apiece as all 12 Crusaders scored to advance to Saturday’s title game against Mt. Pleasant.

In nonleague action:

Constitution 82, Cardinal O’Hara 76 >> Anthony Purnell tallied a season-high 29 points, Adrian Irving added 17 points and Solo Bombarra had 12.
