Pennridge girls, Souderton boys race to wins

EAST ROCKHILL >> This is one she had her eye on since the opening practices of her freshman season.

Battling through the fatigue of winter training and fending off competition from rival Souderton, Pennridge’s Morgan Scott raced to a winning time of 1 minute, 51.91 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle, establishing a new Pennridge pool record.

“I didn’t think I would do it because I died after the first 100,” Scott said. “I was hardly floating. And then when I finished, I was stunned.”

Scott, smashing the previous record set in 2014 by Council Rock North’s Tommie Dillione (1:55.19), led Pennridge to a 100-84 victory over the Indians, in front of a packed house at the Pennridge Natatorium Friday night.

The Souderton boys, meanwhile, with Jake Kramer and Storm Kramer leading the way, would earn an impressive 113-71 win over the Rams, improving to a perfect 8-0 on the season, including a 4-0 mark in the Suburban One League Continental Conference.

Scott would go on to race to a victory in the 100 free, touching in 51.38, as well as anchor the 200 free relay and 400 free relay (exhibition) to victory.

“It was rough. I’ve been working really hard in practice — still sore, and I was just giving it my all,” the sophomore said. “I wanted to see where I could go, going through all the hard training.”

Anna Beno’s pair of wins, coming in the 200 IM and 100 back, along with Brittany Weiss’ double victories in the 500 free and 100 breast, helped get Pennridge over the hump.

“We wanted to beat them and we finally did,” Scott said of their rival. “Last year was a disappointment, so it was definitely something we were aiming for and we got it.”

It was also a good day for the Big Red boys, who were powered by Jake Kramer’s first-place swims in the 200 free and 500 free along with Storm Krader’s victories in the 200 IM and 100 free.

Souderton returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Central Bucks South while Pennridge will be at North Penn that same afternoon.
