Bristol football blanks Morrisville

BRISTOL — It’s a lot like watching the same movie over and over again. There might be some slight variations on the script, but you know what’s coming at the end.

Yes, it was strictly business as usual Thanksgiving Day as the Bristol High School football team drubbed Morrisville by the score of 38-0.

With the victory, Bristol ended up at 6-6 in coach John Greiner’s first year at the helm and also beat Morrisville for the 16th straight time. And like so many other of those other victories, it ended with a running clock as the Warriors had their way with an undermanned Mo’ville team (2-10).

“We wanted to come out and have a fast start,’’ said Greiner. “We wanted to come out and prove we are the better team.’’

It took about 10 minutes to completely prove that as Bristol raced out to a 20-0 lead before the game had barely settled it.

It started with Bristol pushing Morrisville back to its own 1 yard line to set up and a fourth-and-35 on the opening series. After taking over at the Bulldog 36 yard line, Bristol quickly scored on a 20-yard run by Eric Bell.

On the next series the lead grew to 14-0 when Andre Moore scooped up a fumble and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown.

After yet another fumble in a game in which Morrsville had a whopping eight turnovers, Bristol scored its third touchdown on a 10-yard pass from R.J. Collins to Samir Brisbon in the corner of the end zone on fourth down.

Bristol’s fourth possession also resulted in a touchdown as the Warriors put together a 67-yard drive early in the second quarter and scored on a 23-yard burst by Eli Moore up the middle.

It was at this point that Bristol understandably started to lose its focus and Morrisville’s defense started to at least slow the Warriors down. The result was only two more touchdowns, including one on a 5-yard sneak by Collins in the third quarter.

“It was tough coming off a playoff loss (to Springfield Montco), but my assistants did a great job of getting our players ready,’’ said Greiner. “They really got them ready and deserve all the credit.’’

Bell led the way with 108 yards on 12 carries. Much of that total came on a 65-yard burst on the first play of the second half. Eli Moore chipped in with 51 yards on six carries and Daryl Mehn had 55 yards on 10 rushes. Collins only threw three passes, in large part because there was no need to go to the air.

It was actually Bristol’s defense, however, that really ruled the day. In addition to throwing Morrisville running backs to the ground for repeated losses, Bristol got interceptions from Dante Lombardi, Brisbon, Austin Knox and Bell.

Morrisville’s Josh Smith had been an effective runner this year, but yesterday he was held to five yards on 10 carries. Mo’ville quarterback Mike Sacca did complete six passes, including several to Braedon Alwards, but those connections couldn’t come close to compensating for the four picks.

Truman nips Conwell-Egan with last-minute field goal

BRISTOL TWP. — The Tigers finished at 6-6 and won their fourth straight game in a wild affair in which Tim Kenny-Schwartz kicked a winning 34-yard field goal with :09 remaining.

Conwell-Egan (5-6) appeared in control of the game and took a deliberate safety with less than a minute to go. The Eagles, however, committed two ensuing personal foul penalties and Tiger quarterback Maurice Jackson connected on a couple of passes to move his team into field goal position.
