McKinney, Brown give Ridley the edge

Melina McKinney and Brittany Brown played through fading light to secure a 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 12-10 super tiebreak win at fourth doubles, ensuring Ridley of a 4-3 triumph over Penncrest in Tuesday’s down-to-the-wire Central League match.

Freshman Maddie Carlson celebrated her first league win by retiring the Lions’ Rose Taylor, 6-3, 6-0, at third singles.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Marple Newtown 5, Springfield 2: Rylee Power, Emma Clancy and Devon DiCampli swept the singles competition while Mary Montgomery and Sandy Ding (second doubles) and Shadi Nouri and Emily Ding (fourth doubles) posted three-set comeback wins for the Tigers. Jamie Brower and Jenny Caggiano (first doubles) and Rose McManus and Haley Galloway (third doubles) supplied Springfield’s wins.

Haverford High 6, Upper Darby 1: Megha Nagaswami’s 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at first singles put the Fords on track for the easy win. Judy Tsui and Sara Ung hung on for a 6-3, 6-3 victory at fourth doubles for the Royals.

Harriton 5, Garnet Valley 2: Emma Blake won by default at second singles and the tandem of Richa Srivastava and Ananya Chandra battled to a 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 10-4 victory at first doubles to provide a couple highlights for the Jaguars.

Lower Merion 6, Strath Haven 1: Emma Lee’s 6-1, 6-1 triumph at third singles gave the Panthers their lone win.

In the Del Val League:

Chichester 4, Chester 1: Vanessa Kovchenko outdueled Lasheeda Jones, 8-6, 6-4, at first singles and Ella Bucalov rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 victory over Beray Jones at second singles to set the tone for the Eagles.

The Clippers’ win came at first doubles, with Lataezya Watson and Aya Falem knocking off Jing Wang and Brianna Cronin, 7-6, 6-3.

Academy Park 5, Penn Wood 0: The rebuilding process remains in overdrive for the defending league champs, as Lattana Sithara, Vicky Outland and Breanna Reid breezed through their singles matches.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 5, Bonner-Prendergast 0: Caitlyn Savage pulled out a 6-4, 6-3 win at third singles and Laura Onimus and Cara Degman prevailed, 6-2, 6-4, at second doubles as the Lions rolled to their second consecutive shutout.

Archbishop Carroll 4, Little Flower 1: The Patriots opened league play in style as Tess Ginn (first singles) and Jackie Finnegan (third singles) did not drop a point.

In the Bicentennial League:

New Hope-Solebury 7, Delco Christian 0: Ellie Schmucker dropped a tough 7-5, 5-7, 10-8 decision at first singles as the Knights suffered their first loss of the season to the league’s top squad.
