Episcopal ace Virbitsky mows down Malvern in Inter-Ac showdown

Kyle Virbitsky dazzled over seven innings and Jack O’Reilly was perfect at the plate as Episcopal Academy upset second-place Malvern Prep, 5-3, in Inter-Ac League action. The Penn State-bound Virbitsky struck out nine while allowing two earned runs on three hits. O’Reilly went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. In nonleague action: Cardinal O’Hara 7, Germantown Friends 2 >> Michael Davis  drove in two runs and scored another for the Lions (10-9). Jim White reached base safely in every at bat and scored twice. Haverford 7, Phoenixville 3 >> Ben Savitz hurled a complete game with three Ks as the Fords benefitted from six Phantoms errors. Chris Trainor singled, tripled and drove in two runs. In Del Val League games: Interboro 19, Glen Mills 0 >> The Bucs scored all of their runs in the second inning as they locked up at least a share of the Del Val League championship. They can clinch the title outright with a win over Chester Monday. Tariq Asadi pitched the win and hit a triple. Zach Halliday went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Matt MacMullen scored three runs. Chichester 6, Academy Park 2 >> Chris Thomas had both of Ap’s hits. No Chichester details were reported. In Catholic League action: Father Judge 3, Cardinal O’Hara 2 >> In a late Wednesday game, the Lions lost on a walkoff hit in the seventh inning.  Jim White slugged a double and Eric Stewart smacked a double and drove in a run for the Lions (6-5 PCL). In the Bicentennial League: Delco Christian 11, Bristol 1 >> Tyler Rossini dominated from the mound, going five innings with nine strikeouts. He helped his cause by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Knights. Cody Moorhatch went 3-for-3 and scored twice. Calvary Christian 15, Christian Academy 4 >> Jake Sitkowski banged out two hits and scored three runs for the Crusaders (1-12, 1-11). The two-hit performance raised Sitkowski’s season average to an impressive .625 (20-for-32).
