Mercury baseball roundup: Phoenixville, Perk Valley earn PAC-10 wins

Phoenxiville 5, Pottstown 4 >> Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Logan Pennypacker had shut the Phantoms offense down, tossing six scoreless innings and holding a four-run lead. Phoenixville finally got to Pennypacker in the seventh, scoring four runs (three earned) to send the game into extra innings.

After Matt Osisek-Byrne held the Trojans in check in the top of the eighth, Zack Masalski led the bottom of the inning off with a single off Trojan reliever Chris Stone. Colin Hook came in to run for Maslaski and stole second, third and home to score the winning run for the Phantoms.

Perkiomen Valley 4, Upper Perkiomen 1 >> Sophomore Brock Helverson threw a three-hitter and the Vikings plated all four of their runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a PAC-10 victory against the Tribe.

Adam Gaines finished with a double, a run scored and an RBI for PV while Matt Szczesny was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Bryan Pijanowski took the loss for Upper Perk, scattering four runs (two earned) on three hits and no walks across 5-1/3 innings. Logan Curley knocked in his team’s lone run on the day.

Friends’ Central 4, Hill School 3 >> The Blues allowed four runs (one earned) on no hits over the first three innings en route to a non-conference loss to the Phoenix.

The Hill committed three errors on the afternoon and yielded six walks. Chris Hogan took the loss, allowing two hits and striking out one over the first 3-2/3 innings. Jack Baughman came on the rest of the way, striking out two over the course of 2-1/3 innings. Nick Chroscinski had two hits for the Blues and knocked in a run.

Daniel Boone 11, Reading 0 >> Joey Moyer finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored while Brendan Rivoli was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of runs as the Blazers breezed past the Knights in Berks I Conference play.

Bryant Schwoyer allowed one hit and struck out five to take the win.
