Mercury baseball roundup: Daniel Boone uses late-inning drama to beat Berks Catholic

Daniel Boone 5, Berks Catholic 4 >> The Blazers were able to turn a 4-2 deficit in the seventh inning into a 5-4  victory over the Saints in this non-divisional meeting of Berks Conference member schools.

Joey Moyer led-off the seventh with a walk and advanced to third on a Devon Garner line-drive double.  Following a sacrifice fly by Brendan Rivoli and a hard line out to center field by Bryce Stout, Bryant Schwoyer drove in the tying run with a single.  Pinch runner Bryan O’Toole stole second and Ty Esenwein drove him in with a two-out single.

Winning pitcher Zach Brightbill came on in the fourth and retired all 11 batters he faced.  Berks Catholic pitchers held the Blazers to three hits going into the pivotal seventh, where the Blazers used four hits to secure the win.

Kutztown 2, Pottsgrove 0 >> Sean Orrison pitched five shutout innings for the Falcons but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Cougars in non-conference action.

Wyatt Fritz, Aaron Kulp and Trevor Leverington combined to throw a one-hitter for Kutztown.

Perkiomen School 5, Penn Charter 0 >> The Panthers took control and shutout the Quakers in non-league action.
