Methacton’s Woodward reaches 1,000 in win over Hazleton

The Methacton boys basketball team came out on fire in its PIAA Class 6A playoff opener and rolled past District 2 champion Hazleton, 64-42, Saturday evening at Wilkes University on Wilkes Barre.

The District 1 No. 7 seed got 18 points from senior David Duda while junior Jeff Woodward passed 1,000 career points during his 14-point, 12-rebound, 7-block performance.

Ben Christian (13) and Brett Eberly (10 points, 9 assists) also tallied double figures as the Warriors dominated early in building a 22-4 lead after one quarter and a 41-15 lead at halftime.

Methacton (23-7) next meets District 12 runner-up Boys Latin (23-5), which edged Norristown in overtime in its first-round outing. The game will be Wednesday at a site and time to be determined.
