Bendinelli gets 100th career win at National Preps

Episcopal Academy’s Alex Bendinelli may have left Lehigh University without a medal from the National Prep wrestling tournament, but he did not leave empty handed.

Bendinelli bounced back with an 8-5 victory over Rafael Jaquez of St. Benedict’s Prep before being eliminated in a 4-0 loss to eighth-seeded Rich Couch of Archbishop Spalding in Maryland.

Teammate Clay Yang (195) was the only other EA wrestler to win a match. He was 1-2 and lost in the second round of consolations. Flynn Kearney (106), Matthew McHugh (113), Fredericik Green (160) and Paul McLaughlin (285) all went 0-2.

Max Rosenberger of The Haverford School lost a pair of 2-1 decisions at 182 pounds. Teammate Kwaku Adubofour was 0-2 at 285.

In the District 12 Class 3A tournament, Archbishop Carroll’s Jack McQuaid qualified for the North East Regional for the fourth year in a row.

McQuaid went 2-1 at 152 pounds and dropped an 11-8 decision to Central’s Gregory Khochiashvilli in the final. McQuaid picked up win No. 100 of his career last week at the Catholic League championships.
