Episcopal wrestlers will be well represented at National Preps

Episcopal Academy had six wrestlers qualify for National Preps next week at Lehigh thanks to strong performances at the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Wrestling Tournament at Malvern Prep Saturday.

Senior Paul McLaughlin finished fourth at 285. He lost to Kwaku Adubofour of The Haverford School in the third-place match, 7-3. He went 2-2 with both wins by fall.

EA freshman Flynn Kearney (106), eigthh-grader Matthew McHugh (113), senior Alex Bendinelli (138), junior Fredericik Greene (160) and junior Clay Yank (195) all finished fifth.

Kearney was 4-2 with four wins by fall. McHugh went 3-2 with two wins by fall. Bendinelli was 4-2, Greene was 4-2 and Yang 3-2.

Jesse Bell-Taylor (152) and Evan Zanoli (170) both finished seventh.

Adubofour, a sophomore, and Max Rosenberger (182) both qualified for National Preps for Haverford School. Adubofour was 3-1 and was the highest Delco finisher. Rosenberger went 3-2 and lost a 4-3 decision to Will Neveroski of Springside Chestnut Hill Academy in the third-place match.

EA finished fifth with 105.5 points and Haverford School was 14th (34.0)

Malvern’s junior Dayton Delviscio, who earned All-Delco honors as a freshman at Penncrest, won the 113-pound class for the second year in a row.

Catholic League Championships

Archbishop Carroll’s Jack McQuaid finished second at 152 pounds. He lost a 3-2 decision to Zac St. Thomas of Wood in the final. He had a bye in the first round and pinned Danny Wildonger of Judge in the semis in 3:56.

Donald Reimer was fifth at 138. He won by forfeit over Kieran Donaher of the Prep in the fifth-place match.

Mason Daly (120), David Grill (145) and Christopher Caponi (182) all placed sixth.
