Handy scores 48 points, tops 2,000 for career

For a half, it looked like Logan Handy would have to wait until the District 1 Class A playoffs to join the 2,000-point club.

Then the senior guard from Chester Charter School for the Arts got hot.

Handy scored 36 of her 48 points in the second half to eclipse the 2,000-point mark and lead the Sabers to a 59-29 nonleague girls basketball victory over Plumstead Christian Friday.

Handy came into the game needing 47 points for 2,000 and reached the milestone with a little over one minute to play. She scored 1,500 points in three seasons at Laurel High School in Delaware and 501 this season for CCSA for 2,001 points in her, according to Sabers coach DeJuana Mosley.

Ceyrah Williams added a triple double with 11 assists, 11 steals and 10 blocked shots.

In other nonleague action:

Interboro 48, Sun Valley 44 >> Madison Diehl scored 15 points to lead the Bucs over the Vanguards.

Savannah Lewis had a season-high 15 points for the Vanguards. Abby Seasock added 13 points and Maya Morris was 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Penn Charter 55, Episcopal Academy 50 >> Raeleen Keffer-Sharpf scored 21 of her game-high 23 points in the second half, but it was not enough to help the Churchwomen climb out of a 32-15 hole. Riley Cassidy pitched in with 10 points.
