Mercury Swimming Roundup: Upper Perk boys, girls split with Upper Merion

Upper Perkiomen 92, Upper Merion 67 >> The Indians’ win over the Vikings in a Pioneer Athletic Conference meet Friday gave Upper Perkiomen (8-2) its first winning league record since joining the PAC and helped the Indians place third in the league, their best ever finish.

Noel Fresa and Devin Romanowski both won two individual events for Upper Perk and were victorious in the 200 free relay. Fresa won the 50 free (24.89) and the 100 free (54.24), while Romanowski claimed wins in the 500 free (5:30.38) and 100 back (1:05.52).

Other individual winners included Bailey McCausland (200 free) and Darragh Martin (200 IM) for Upper Perk and Upper Merion’s Emily Burke (100 fly and 100 breast), who helped win the 200 medley relay.

Upper Merion 93, Upper Perkiomen 70 >> Upper Perkiomen’s Kyle Kovalenko broke a 24-year-old record in the 100 breast (59.12) in the Indians’ Pioneer Athletic Conference meet Friday.

Trevor Cairns was the other individual winner for Upper Perk, placing first in the 200 free (1:50.50) and the 500 free (4:52.40) in addition to winning the 400 free relay (3:47.22) with Kovalenko.

Andrew Hoy (200 IM), Aidan McNally (50 free), Michael Lemishko (100 fly), Cody Nguyen (100 free) and Frank Santini (100 back) were winners for Upper Merion.
