Daniels, Morris lead Chester Charter to key win over TCA

The first senior night in Chester Charter School for the Arts history went pretty well for the Sabers.

Kabree Daniels scored a career-high eight points, and Devante Morris added 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocks as the first two seniors to play for the second-year varsity program, leading CCSA to a 66-61 win over Christian Academy in a battle of District 1 Class A playoff hopefuls.

Sean DeShields scored 12 points to go with six rebounds, two steals and two assists, and Bruce Rogers added nine points for the Sabers (11-9).

Tehron Phillips led TCA with 33 points and six steals, and Grant Sareyka added nine for the Crusaders (9-9).

In the Central League:

Penncrest 60, Harriton 54 >> Malcolm Williams scored nine points in the first quarter to stake the Lions to an early 18-7 lead en route to victory. Williams finished with a game-high 23 points.

Matt Arbogast was near a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds, and Isaiah Rice paired 12 points with five assists for the Lions (16-5, 12-3).

Upper Darby 44, Garnet Valley 43 >> Mamadou Toure scored 19 points, and Justin Ritter added nine as the Royals (8-12, 7-8) kept their playoff hopes alive.

Greg Vlassopoulos led a short-handed Garnet Valley with 20 points, though he hit only two of three free throws with .4 seconds left and a chance to tie the game for the Jags (13-8, 9-6).

Haverford 40, Ridley 30 >> John Seidman scored 22 points, including seven in a first quarter where the Fords held a 15-2 advantage to score a clutch victory. Dany Roe added 11 points for the Fords (12-8, 8-7).

Malachi Williams led Ridley with 12 points, and Enoch Clark added 10 for the Green Raiders (12-8, 7-8).

Strath Haven 61, Springfield 30 >> Luke Edwards scored 19 points, and Matt Shuler was 4-for-6 from 3-point range for a career-best 16 points as the Panthers (3-18, 3-12) snapped a 14-game losing streak.

Brian Ward led Springfield with eight points.

In the Del Val League:

Chester 67, Penn Wood 53 >> Karell Watkins (23 points, 13 rebounds) tallied yet another double-double, and Rahmaad DeJarnette added 15 points for the Clippers.

Akeem Taylor scored eight of his 14 points in the third quarter, when Chester pulled away with a 18-5 edge, and Michael Smith added 13 points and four assists for the Clippers (16-4, 9-0). Chester has won 12 in a row.

Davante Smith led the way for Penn Wood with 17 points, and Zac’Chae-us Williams chipped in 12 for the Patriots (13-8, 5-4).

Academy Park 81, Glen Mills 62 >> Tyriq Marrero marked his return after 13 games out with 19 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Knights rolled. Derrick Northern added 15 points, as did Naseim Harley, who added five rebounds and five assists for AP (15-6, 6-3).

Aaron Thompson led Glen Mills with 22 points. Jabriel Guinyard chipped in 15 for the Battlin’ Bulls (6-15, 4-5).

Chichester 63, Interboro 33 >> Jamese Lundy-Byrd scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half to go with five rebounds and six steals for the Eagles. Calvin Church added 11 points and eight boards, Josh Hankins tossed in 11 points and Matt Mushinski only scored two points but added 12 rebounds and three blocks. Chichester (4-17, 3-6) kept Interboro off the board in the fourth quarter.

Damon Dukes scored 16 points to lead Interboro.

In the Bicentennial League:

Valley Forge M.A. 61, Delco Christian 53 >> Obinna Nwobodo and Jackson Piotrowski scored 17 points apiece, but the Knights (12-9, 7-7) couldn’t come up with their second win in as many nights. Tyler Rossini bombed home three 3-pointers for nine points.
