Irving, O’Hara achieve first Catholic League win

Adrian Irving did what he had to do to get Cardinal O’Hara its first Catholic League win Thursday.

Irving scored a game-high 20 points, and O’Hara turned up its defense to limit West Catholic to just 15 first-half points in a 64-52 victory, the first league triumph for first-year coach Ryan Nemetz.

Anthony Purnell added 12 points, and Sean Hutchinson added 10. The Lions (7-8, 1-6 Catholic League) were 23-for-31 from the line to ice it.

In the Central League:

Garnet Valley 70, Marple Newtown 51 >> Neel Beniwal downed four 3-pointers for 24 points, and Greg Vlassopoulos added 21 points for the Jags. Carl Schaller was in double-figures again with 11 points for GV (11-3, 7-2).

Tommy Gardler led all scorers with 26 points for Marple Newtown, and Dan McNeal added a season-high 12 points for the Tigers (4-10, 2-7).

Radnor 53, Upper Darby 48 >> Sean Mullarkey scored 11 of his season-high 15 points in the second half, and Lewis Robinson chipped in 16 points as Radnor (8-6, 5-4) ended a two-game slide with an impressive win.

Shareef Jones hit four 3-pointers to lead Upper Darby with 16 points, and Iyan Joshuasville chipped in 10 points for the Royals (5-7, 4-5).

Lower Merion 60, Penncrest 59 >> Isaiah Rice led Penncrest with 16 points, but the Lions dropped their second straight game in overtime. Marquis Tomlin scored 13 points, and Matt Arobgast paired 12 points with 13 rebounds for Penncrest (11-4, 7-2).

Harriton 46, Haverford 43 >> John Seidman led all scorers with 15 points, Danny Roe added 10 points and John Schievert scored eight, but the Fords lost on the road.

Conestoga 63, Springfield 43 >> Nasir Cryor hit four 3-pointers for 12 points to go with five assists, Cole Rhodes scored 10 points and Ben Storz hit three triples to tally nine in the setback for the Cougars (0-14, 0-9).
