Foley, Penn Charter barely outpoint EA in pool

In a meet that came down to the final relay Tuesday, Sally Foley and Penn Charter had the final say.

Foley won the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, then turned around to anchor Penn Charter’s winning 400 freestyle relay to victory and edge Episcopal Academy, 93-92, in an Inter-Ac League meet.

Kelly Feuze Mekoue won the 50 free and 100 free for EA. She also anchored the Churchwomen’s winning 200 free relay. Hadley DeBruyn won the 100 backstroke for EA.

Paige Shaika (50 free) and Madison Rae (100 fly) added two relay wins each for Ridley, which claimed all but one of the swimming events.

Marple Newtown’s Gabby Vanderslice won the 100 breast. Alexandra Pastris (251.40) narrowly out-pointed Ridley’s Meghan Lynch (242.95) to deliver the diving title to the Tigers.

Haverford 95, Strath Haven 89 >> Elsley Hazell showed her versatility in winning the 100 fly and 100 breast as the Fords flexed their superior depth to swim by Haven. Laura Seavey and Grace Myers won the 50 and 100 free, respectively, for the Fords.

Mia Yancey (200 IM, 100 back) and Sydney Bergstrom (200 free, 400 free) each won two events and took part in the Panthers’ winning 200 and 400 free relays.

Conestoga 101, Garnet Valley 85 >> Catherine Weaverling won the 200 free and 100 fly, and Noelle DiClemente sprinted to the 50 and 100 free titles, but the Pioneers’ depth proved overpowering.

With the meet tied, Mike Hannig came up big once again for Marple Newtown. He won the 50 free, 100 back and led off the winning 400 free relay to pace the Tigers to a 96-60 Central League win over Ridley.

Hannig also swam on the winning 200 medley relay with Matthew Gray (winner of the 200 free), Williams Thomas (100 breast) and Finn Gunther (500 free). Demetri Tsitsios outdueled Ridley’s Mason Beck in a battle of 200-point divers.

Conestoga 117, Garnet Valley 66 >> Aidan Zipf won the 100 fly and Matthew Hurford claimed the 100 free in a 1-2 finish with Ryan Hickey, but Conestoga had too much for the Jags to handle.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Episcopal Academy 104, Penn Charter 65 >> Ivan Puskovitch continued his assault on record boards by downing the 200 IM and 500 free pool marks at Penn Charter and leading the Churchmen’s 400 free relay to a pool mark.

Puskovitch clocked in at 1:53.83 in the IM and 4:28.76 in the 500. The relay team of Puskovitch, Jack Christian, Sam Wesley and Ben Wesley turned in a 3:10.95 to win the 400 free.
