Mercury wrestling roundup: Spring-Ford sweeps through Rock Yard Duals

Rock Yard Duals >> Spring-Ford remained perfect in duals competition this season, sweeping to the championship of the eight-school competition hosted by Council Rock North Saturday.

The Rams, who previously went 5-0 in the Abington Duals in mid-December, posted a 4-0 mark while winning by an average margin of 49-23. They rolled up wins over Archbishop Wood (61-18), Ridley (51-23) and the host Indians (41-27) in early rounds; they then handled Downingtown West in the title match, 44-23.

Quinn Tobin dominated in going 4-0 at 120 and 126, scoring three pins and a technical fall. Jack McGill had three falls in sweeping past opponents at 138. Joey Milano, another 4-0 competitor, had two pins and a tech fall at 182 and 195.

Spring-Ford also got 3-1 outings from Shane Reynolds (113), Dirk Nugent (152) and Luis Carbajal (195-220) in running its season record to 10-1.

Methacton, also competing at Rock North, went 2-2. It topped William Tennent (50-24), then lost to Downingtown West (48-25) and Neshaminy (49-17) before handling Ridley in the fifth-place match, 49-27

Parkland Duals >> Boyertown went 3-2 on the day, winning matches with Central High (64-12), Mariana Bracetti Academy (60-21) and Parkland (51-18) but falling to Northampton (64-9) and Cumberland Valley (38-36).

Jacob Miller was the lone Bear to go 5-0, pinning three opponents in bouts at 195 and 220. Julien Maldonado (106/113), Brett Breidor (152), Evan Mortimer (160/170) and Jacob Sonder (220/285) all went 4-1 while Kade Davidheiser (106/113) was 3-1.

Anthracite Duals >> Phoenixville placed fourth in the duals competition at Panther Valley, going 2-3 on the day. The Phantoms opened by beating Halifax (38-25) and North Schuylkill (45-33) before falling to Mid Western (57-21), Wilson (57-12) and Penn Manor (53-24).

Dave Polanski went 5-0 to lead Phoenixville, with Alex Washington 4-1. Antonio Valenteen had a 2-0 showing while Travis Pannella was 3-2.

Phoenixville went 2-3 on the day but ended up in 4th place out of 12 teams.

Hawk Duals >> Upper Perkiomen went 1-4 in duals action at Hamburg. The Indians’ lone win against Allentown Central Catholic (45-30) was bookended by losses to Faith Christian (48-21), Dallastown (66-15), Pottsville (43-25) and Tamaqua (48-27).
