Vlassopoulos comes through late for Garnet Valley

With a minute to play, Greg Vlassopoulos figured it was a good time to take over Tuesday night.

Vlassopoulos had a dunk to get Garnet Valley within one point in the final minute, then calmly sunk a pair of free throws to send the Jaguars past host Conestoga, 54-53, in the Central League opener for both teams.

Vlassopoulos finished with a game-high 22 points. Neel Beniwal added 12 points, and Cade Brennan chipped in seven for the Jags (2-0, 1-0).

Ridley 39, Upper Darby 31 >> Nasir Santiago was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line to score 10 points as the Green Raiders prevailed in a defensive battle via a 14-5 margin in the fourth quarter in a significant road result.

Meese Tobey added four points for the Green Raiders (2-0, 1-0), who shut out UD, 5-0, in the second quarter.

Kymir Roper led the Royals (1-1, 0-1) with eight points.

Penncrest 57, Marple Newtown 47 >> Malcolm Williams led the way with 21 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals for the Lions (2-1, 1-0). Matt Argobast chipped in a double-double of 17 points and 10 boards.

Tommy Gardler hit a pair of 3-pointers to lead the Tigers with 16 points, and Joe Pettinelli’s three triples contributed nine points as half of Marple’s 16 made baskets came from behind the arc.

Lower Merion 54, Haverford 41 >> John Seidman scored 13 points and Dan Roe added 12, but the Fords couldn’t overcome a 39-11 deficit at halftime.

Radnor 77, Springfield 41 >> Lewis Robinson scored 17 points, and Doug Campbell chipped in 13 as the Raiders rolled. Jack D’Entremont added nine points for Radnor (1-1, 0-1).

Harriton 52, Strath Haven 42 >> Ibo Pio and Luke Edwards both set career-highs with 15 points, but the Panthers fell. Brady Mutz chipped in seven points for Haven (0-3, 0-1).
