The Pope John Paul II girls soccer team pushed their season finale back as far as it could possibly go.

Then took it a step further.

On the eve of the 2018 Pioneer Athletic Conference Final Four, Pope John Paul II claimed the final spot in the playoffs with a 2-1 win over Upper Perkiomen in double-overtime on Monday afternoon.

Mary Kate Shannon scored the game-winning goal while Amaya Ransom had a first-half score for PJP (8-2 PAC Frontier, 9-4 PAC overall). Stacy Kormos made five saves in goal to preserve the win while Delanie Didiier and Rayna George came away with assists.

Upper Perk’s Phoebe Pardy had a goal with an assist from Leah Marks while Hannah Landis made eight saves.

As a result, Pope John Paul II will face top-seeded Owen J. Roberts (9-0-1 PAC Liberty, 12-0-1 PAC overall) in the opening round of the PAC playoffs at OJR Tuesday night. Pottsgrove will take on Spring-Ford in the other semifinal. Both games are slated for 5 p.m.
