Almonte, Daly lead Carroll field hockey to rout of Ryan

Alex Almonte and Keri Daly came up big as Archbishop Carroll rolled over Archbishop Ryan, 9-1. The win kept the Patriots (12-4, 7-0) undefeated in the Catholic League and set up a showdown for first place at Archbishop Wood Wednesday.

Almonte scored twice and had one assist. Daly tallied one goal and handed out two helpers. Maeve Riehman also had two goals for Carroll.

In the Catholic Academies League:

Sacred Heart 4, St. Basil 0 >> Sarah Terzian and Caitlin Hughes were outstanding on defense and Gigi Backe turned back 10 shots for the shutout.

Dani Santora led the offense with two goals. Julia Flood pitched in with one goal and one assist for the Lions (6-15, 3-11).

In nonleague action:

Delco Christian 1, Upper Darby 0 >> The Knights extended their winning streak to five games thanks to Hannah Lee’s goal in overtime and another strong effort in the cage by Rachel Yeung (six saves).
