Garnet Valley bounces back, claims share of Central League title

Garnet Valley is back on the winning track after two straight losses and the Jaguars’ reward for Monday’s 3-1 volleyball victory over Conestoga is at least a share of the Central League title.

The 24-26, 25-19, 25-9, 25-20 win gave Garnet Valley (12-2 overall, 8-0 Central League) a two-match lead over the Pioneers and Penncrest with two matches to play. The Jaguars can wrap up the outright title at Upper Darby Wednesday. Ally Hartney and Sam Mann were rock solid again. Hartney had 18 kills, two blocks and two aces to help the Jags rebound from back-to-back losses to Bishop Shanahan and Upper Merion. Mann chipped in with 12 kills and eight blocks.

Rachel Cain set the pace with 39 assists, seven digs and two aces. Jordan Gallagher led the defense with 20 digs.

In other Central League action:

Penncrest 3, Radnor 0 >> Senior Cameron Bailey had 10 kills in the 25-19, 25-13, 25-16 win. Fellow seniors Megan Arndt (eight kills), Holly Klavans (four kills and four blocks) and Tessa DiSerafino (three blocks, two kills) were strong at the net. Emma Pasnak (five digs, 10 serve receiving passes) and Tori Gargiule (four kills, 10 digs) also came up with big contributions for the Lions (9-3, 7-2).

Sammy Scannapieco (16 digs, five kills) and Erica DiCarlo (18 assists, 12 digs, two kills) led the way for the Raiders.

Ridley 3, Marple Newtown 0 >> Melanie June’s 17 digs and five aces paced the Green Raiders to a 25-20, 25-17, 25-15 victory. Angela April and Alex Orr led the attack with 10 and eight kills, respectively. Kara Green pitched in with eight digs.

Strath Haven 3, Haverford 0 >> Hailey Blum collected 19 assists, five kills, five digs and three aces in the 25-21, 25-15, 25-13 win. Gabby McGinn contributed 13 digs, eight kills, two aces and one block. Ellie Fisher had nine digs, six kills, two aces and one block.

Harriton 3, Upper Darby 0 >> Lexi Witmer recorded 49 digs as the Royals fell 25-14, 25-20, 25-18. Violet Lange pounded six kills and Kim Izumi tallied six aces.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 3, Neumann-Goretti 0 >> Maeve Boylan filled up the stat sheet in the 25-8, 25-15, 25-7 triumph with five kills, five digs, three assists, two aces and one block. Emily Collins (seven aces, five digs) and Regan Hickey (four aces, two kills, two digs) also came up big for the Lions (15-1, 6-1).
