Shutouts habit forming for Springfield

Four of Springfield’s five wins heading into Friday’s nonleague encounter with Archbishop Carroll were by shutout.

Make it five of six.

Carli Johnston scored midway through the first half and the defense did the rest as the Cougars held on for a 1-0 victory over the Patriots. Shannon Cutcliff made seven saves to post the shutout for Springfield (6-7-1).

Nicoletta Cashin (10 saves) and Jasmine Vega (one) stood tall in goal for Carroll.

In other nonleague action:

Radnor 1, Mount St. Joseph 0 >> Sydney Wilson’s goal in the first half was all the Raiders needed to top the Magic.

Anna Gurian and Katie Bell played one half each in goal and combined on the shutout.

Garnet Valley 2, Kennett 0 >> Alyssa Saito and Carlie Shiller provided the offense with one goal each. Kayleigh Saboja pitched the shutout, while Kara Nealon stood out on defense.
