Mercury Field Hockey Roundup: Perk Valley tops Pennsbury

The Perkiomen Valley field hockey team continued its unbeaten run to start the season Saturday afternoon, putting together a 3-1 win over host Pennsbury.

Teresa Bartkowski scored six minutes in to give the Vikings (10-0 overall) an early lead before Nicole Joniak evened it up later in the half. Gabby Martina scored on a feed from Saige Shine less than four minutes later as Perk valley lead 2-1 in the half and extended the lead with a score by Kelly Baitinger.

Ashley Derrick picked up the win in the cage with six saves while Cristina Dougherty and Martina each had assists.

Owen J. Roberts 6, North Penn 1 >> Julia Lamb scored twice while Jenna Kirby and Maddy Koury each had a goal and an assist in the Wildcats’ non-conference win over the Knights.

OJR used a 3-0 advantage in the second half to seal the win. Olivia LeClaire and Eloise Gebert each scored once while Cayden Jarvis and Caitlin McGee each had a save in goal to preserve the shutout.

Daniel Boone 3, Wyomissing 2 >> Clara Lacek converted a penalty stroke to lift the Blazers (4-3-1) over the Spartans in a pairing of Berks Conference member schools.

Aubrey Newman and Lily Stefanelli had Boone’s other tallies, with Haley Engro and Kaley Siderio getting credit for assists. Ashley Finkbiner had a 13-save day in goal for the Blazers.

Episcopal Ac. 3, Hill School 2 >> The Blues stayed ahead of Episcopal in the early going, only to see their non-league guests take charge in the second half.

EA scored twice in the space of 70 seconds to break open a 1-1 deadlock. The Hill’s first goal came from Alex Conway, with Conway assisting Josephine Palde 18 minutes before game’s end.
