Mercury Boys Soccer Roundup: Spring-Ford blanks Boyertown 2-0

Scoring in each half Thursday, the Spring-Ford boys soccer team dispatched Boyertown, 2-0, in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division matchup.

Spring-Ford scored first in the 18th minute after Gabe Locke worked a ball into Brett Gulati, who went far post for a 1-0 lead. The Rams scored again when Gulati played a cross to a streaking Colin Trainor, who headed home a curving goal in the top left corner. Ray Fortebuono (four saves) and the Rams defense kept a clean sheet for the fourth game in a row.

Owen J. Roberts 8, Norristown 0 >> Josh Fonder’s hat trick headed the potent offensive that carried the Wildcats to victory over the Eagles in their PAC Liberty Division contest.

Sam Smith (one assist) had two goals while Kyle Storti, Sam Coroniti and Addison Waldman added solo tallies. Ethan Gawlik was credited with two assists.

Phoenixville 4, Pope John Paul II 0 >> Goals by JT Stevens, Ryan Cowan, Jake Perillo, and Kender Perez led the Phantoms in a PAC Frontier win. Assists went to Keler Garcia, Perillo, Stevens, and Dan Barry. Gavin Perillo made four saves to keep the clean sheet.

Perkiomen Valley 1, Methacton 1 >> The neighboring PAC rivals played all even through regulation and two overtimes before ultimately finishing their Liberty Division game in a tie.

Methacton’s goal was scored by Brett Eberly and assisted by Trevor Rambo. PV scored with about ten minutes to go in the 2nd half on a breakaway by Max Chamarro. Brian Desvars minded the net for Methacton (2-3-1) and had three saves. For PV, goalie Josh Moyer had (approximately) six saves.

Pottsgrove 4, Upper Perkiomen 1 >> Ethan Pace netted a hat trick for the Falcons, keying their PAC Frontier Division victory over the Indians.

Pace got two of his three tallies in the second half, helping Pottsgrove expand the 1-0 halftime lead he secured. Ryan Curnew rounded out the Falcon scoring, Collin Deckert was credited with two assists and Luke Kaiser provided three-save goaltending.

Joseph McMichael had UP’s lone goal to start the second half. Patrick McHale had an eight-save day in goal.
