Mercury roundup: Upper Perk girls soccer blanked at Oley Valley

Tribe falls twice >> Upper Perkiomen opened its season with a pair of losses at the Oley Valley Lynx Soccer Tournament.

In their opener Friday, the Indians were edged by Berks Catholic, 1-0, the game’s lone goal coming midway through the second half. Hannah Landis recorded five saves for UP under rainy, difficult conditions.

In its next game, undermanned Upper Perk — down three starters due to injuries — fell 2-0 to Schuylkill Valley. The Panthers got one tally in each half, the second off a penalty kick. Sierra Fretz registered seven saves in the match.
