Delco Girls Basketball Roundup: O’Hara honors McGinty for 800 victories, routs Little Flower

Cardinal O’Hara celebrated the career of coach Linus McGinty prior to Wednesday’s 73-19 Catholic League victory over Little Flower.

McGinty earned coaching victory No. 800 on the road last season. Wednesday was the first time O’Hara had the opportunity to properly salute its legendary coach with a video presentation and a commemorative basketball and banner.

McGinty’s players made sure his night would be a special one. Kerry Patterson and Maura Hendrixson led the way with 14 points apiece for the Lions (2-0, 2-0), who jumped out to a 23-8 advantage after the first quarter. Emily Helms and Stephanie Husby netted nine points apiece, while Kenzie Gardler had eight.

In nonleague games:

Bonner & Prendergast 71, Penn Wood 42 >> Ariana McGeary registered 14 points and eight rebounds as the Pandas (4-2) cruised to their third straight victory.

The visiting Patriots were outscored 26-8 in the second quarter as the Pandas went into the locker room at halftime leading by 24.

Maeve McCann tossed in 10 points for B&P and Dakota McCaughan had eight points, four assists and four steals. Amayla Sharif also scored eight points while Katie Logan chipped in with seven.

Carle Andrews dropped in a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds for Penn Wood (1-4). Saleia Matthews added eight points and Jada Hutt had five points, two blocks and one steal.

Academy Park 65, Sacred Heart 48 >> The Knights began the game on a 26-11 spurt and hit six of their 10 3-point field goals in the opening quarter. Mahya Woodton scored 12 of her game-high 29 points in the first period. Riley Street chipped in with 10 points for AP.

Eileen Piombino led the way for the Lions (4-4) with 20 points .

Unionville 55, Interboro 33 >> Kerri Barnett netted a team-high nine points and Hailey Wittorf finished with six for the Bucs.

In the Bicentennial League:

Christian Academy 48, MaST Charter 19 >> The Crusaders won their seventh in a row to start the season. Lindsay Haseltine scored a game-high 14 points, Grace Gormley finished with 13 points and Hannah Sareyka added eight.
