O’Donnell starts streak of wins as Upper Darby outpoints Ridley

Upper Darby finished its season opener with victories in the final seven bouts en route to defeating Ridley in a Central League dual meet Wednesday, 56-23.

Justin O’Donnell started the streak with a win by technical fall in the 145-pound match. Kevin Kerwood followed with a decision at 152, while Jake Johnston (160) and Matt O’Neil registered back-to-back pins. Dezhan Peterson (195) and Folly Amouzougan (220) won the final two bouts for the Royals.

Mason Matteo (106) and Davis Huth (138) notched pin fall victories for the Green Raiders.

Garnet Valley 57, Lower Merion 19 >> Kevin Puliti won by major decision, 12-4, in the 106-pound bout as the Jaguars squashed the Aces. Gavin Hollingsworth won by technial fall at 132 and Ethan Cooper earned a pinfall at 132. Other winners for GV included Nick D’Antonio (170), Austin Filippone (170) and Thomas Deaver (182).

Strath Haven 54, Springfield 13 >> Cole Pikle pinned his opponent in 3:30 in the 138-pound match and Sasha Reiger won a major decision at 145 as Strath Haven won its Central League opener. Pikle handled the Cougars’ Andy Piazza while Reiger pulled out a hard-fought match, 8-7.

Springfield (0-1) got things started with three consecutive victories, including Steven Boyer’s 10-3 major decision over Alex Hemingway. Tyler Forbes also pinned Strath Haven’s Dalton Zweler in the 152-pound match in 2:49.

Penncrest 51, Harriton 23 >> For the Lions, Jeremy Moore (113), Nick Martini (138), Brendon Stocki (145) and Dimitri Partsinakis (195) all had their opponent staring at the lights for the fall. Tyler Kokoska won by decision at 160 pounds.

In nonleague action:

Chichester 52, Kennett 28 >> Josiah Nichols pinned his opponent in 35 seconds at 145 pounds to help Chichester down Kennett.

With the win, Nichols was one of four Chi wrestlers to improve to 6-0 on the season, along with Chase Whartnaby (106), Marquill Hudnell (152) and Jovani Perez, who took home a victory in the 160-pound match with pin after 1:20. Noah Harvey also had a strong day for the Eagles (5-1) as he won the 182-pound match in major decision, 13-1.
