Head coach Steve Mitten steps aside at West Chester Henderson

WEST CHESTER >> After six years as head football coach at West Chester Henderson, Steve Mitten has tendered his resignation, citing personal reasons.

Henderson was 1-9 this past season, with the only win coming over Kennett early in October. Mitten had an overall record of 41-39, including some big playoff wins against Pottsgrove, North Penn and Upper Dublin.

“We have big shoes to fill,” Henderson athletic director Ken McCormick said. “Steve started as a ball boy here and then he played here and came back in 2004 after being an assistant coach at Red Lion High School. He will always be a Warrior.”.

McCormick said the head coaching position will be advertised with a December 17 deadline for applications. Mitten was only the fifth head football coach at Henderson since 1960.

“I just felt it is the right time for me and the program,” Mitten said. “We did not win a championship but we had some big playoff wins. I got into this to honor my father’s memory and I feel we did that.”
