DLN ALL-AREA: Boys Track & Field First Team, Second Team & Honorable Mention

First Team
Josh Hoey, Jr., Bishop Shanahan
The senior joined Terrance Laird as the only area athletes to bring home individual gold medals from the PIAA Class AAA met at Shippensburg. Hoey captured the 800 meters in a season-best 1:50.13. The victory followed his first-place finish in the District 1 meet. He also placed fourth in the mile at the Penn Relays and at the New Balance National Outdoors on June 18 as he laid claim to being one of the premier middle distance runners in the state. He was a first-team selection on the Penn Track Coaches all-state team.

Keegan Hughes, Sr., Bishop Shanahan
Hughes showed he’s one of the top hurdlers around with high placings at state and districts. He was second in the 300 hurdles in the PIAA meet to Ayden Owens of North Allegheny, who also took the 110 hurdles final. Hughes also took the runner-up spot in the District 1 championship. He also won the 300 hurdles at the Ches-Mont Championships. He even scored two wins in the 400 at two meets during the season. He was named to the all-state second team.

Xavier Feliciano, Sr., Kennett
Feliciano was part of a formidable field duo with teammate Alec Sheehan for the Blue Demons. The senior notched three victories in the pole vault in invitationals. In the post-season, he took first place easily at Ches-Monts. He followed that up with a third at districts and a second at states in 15-0, a shade under his personal mark of 15-1. He also finished 10th at the New Balance National Outdoors. His season culminated in a second-team all-state selection.

Julian Klenner, Soph., Westtown School
The versatile sophomore is a rising star for the Moose. He won the 100 at Friends School League meet in a personal best 10.94. At the same meet, he also took gold in the 200 and the high jump. He stretched out and finished first at the PAISAA Championships in the 400, nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Klenner was honorable mention pick for the all-state team.

Jeremy Jennings, Sr., Downingtown East
The two-sport star nearly pulled off the district-states double, finishing second in both meets. He won his preliminary race at Shippensburg. Jennings captured the 100 at the Ches-Mont Championships. Earlier in the season, he won the 100 at the Council Rock Invitational. Next fall, he will use his speed on the football field at Temple.

Jared Elters, Jr., Coatesville
The junior repeated his title in the 110 hurdles at the Ches-Mont Championships. He also blazed his way to the win at districts, before placing eighth at states. Elters also fashioned a win at the Lower Merion Invitational.

Alec Sheehan, Sr., Kennett
The other half of the talented partnership with Feliciano. He had a pretty good May winning the discus at the Warrior Invitational, the Ches-Mont Championships and the District 1 meet. He came in sixth at states, and capped off his senior year with a third-place finish at the New Balance National Outdoors. “It’s very special for me to win it two years in a row,” Sheehan said after the Ches-Mont meet. “Last year there wasn’t much expected from me, but this year there certainly was.”

Connor Cummings, Sr., West Chester Rustin
Cummings came up with a clutch performance at districts, using a personal-best throw of 53-8 to win the shot put. Cummings also took the gold at Ches-Monts. “It’s very different this year because you have guys you beat before and new people who are trying to knock you off,” he said after the Ches-Monts.
