There was plenty of talented players in the boys volleyball scene during the 2017 season and with them came plenty of success for several of the local teams.
The 2017 Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery All-Area teams are filled with players that pushed their sides to continued success — Pennridge claiming a third District 1-3A title — or a return to the top — Dock winning its first district championship since 2014.
Both Pennridge and Dock are represented on the All-Area first team with two Rams making the squad — senior Ben Chinnici, the Player of the Year and junior Cross Edwards. Both Chinnici and Edwards were All-District 1 and All-Suburban One League Continental first team picks in helping the Rams once more defend their district crown.
Joining Chinnici and Edwards is Dock junior Lincoln Bergey, an All-District 1 first-teamer who finished the year with 318 kills as the Pioneers advanced to the PIAA 2A quarterfinals.
Like SOL Continental rival Pennridge, Central Bucks West has a pair of All-Area first team picks in seniors Ryan Alu and Daniel Klapper. The Bucks duo — both all-conference and all-district first-team selections — lead West to its first Continental title since 2014.
Souderton senior Mike Pagan and La Salle junior Jake Glah complete the ll-Area first team. Pagan, an All-SOL Continental first team and All-District 1 second team honoree, led the Indians to the district quarterfinals. Glah was named Philadelphia Catholic League MVP in helping the Explorers claim their second straight PCL title.
