Mercy Mercy crew Varsity 4+ heading to Henley Women’s Regatta

Merion Mercy Academy’s V4+ will head to England after winning Gold in three premiere regattas – City Championships, Stotesbury and Nationals – to compete in the Henley Women’s Regatta.

This will be Merion Mercy’s rowing program’s third trip to the world-famous regatta.  MMA earned Henley gold in 2011.

Merion Mercy rowers will stay with host families from St. Edward’s School of Oxford who the team befriended in 2011 during their first trip to Henley.  Since 2011, rowers from St. Edward’s have visited the U.S. and stayed with Merion Mercy families for the annual Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. In return, MMA team members visited St. Edward’s School for their school’s Head Regatta.

MMA rowing coach Michael Brown said, “The best part of this partnership is the experience of living a day in the life of an American and British student-athlete.  The girls live with families, go to lessons and sight see, and, of course, race. Lifetime friendships have been established, and this type of learning goes way beyond the classroom.”

Merion Mercy will host a send off for Henley-bound rowers (Emma Braun, Morgan Lamb, Jeanne McGill, Cate Schreiber, Cece Wendel, and alternate Caroline Hecht) June 12. School leaders, students, parents, alumnae, and friends will gather and wish them well with a heartfelt cheerio.
