Times Herald/Reporter/Montgomery area state softball preview

The softball District 1 and 12 playoffs are over and a number of area teams are gearing up to make a run at state championships.

Faith Christian, Dock Mennonite and Archbishop Wood each won district championships and Perk Valley and Spring-Ford also did enough to earn state playoff berths.

All games are scheduled for Monday with the winners advancing to the second round Thursday.

Class-A

(1-1) Faith Christian vs. (11-1) Williams Valley >> District 1 champion Faith Christian opens its state run against District 11 champion Williams Valley at 3:30 p.m. at Spring-Ford High School.

Faith Christian is coming off a dominate performance in their championship game against Maritime Charter. The Lions won 15-0 in four innings behind Maddie Hausman’s one-hit, 10-strikeout pitching performance.

Williams Valley won its district tournament with a 13-0 win over Mahanoy in the semifinals and 4-0 win over Tri-Valley for the championship.

Class-AAA

(1-1) Dock Mennonite vs. (12-1) Masterman >> District 1 champion Dock Mennonite will face District 12 champion Masterman in the first round of the state playoffs at 3:30 p.m. at Arcadia University.

The Pioneers bested St. Basil, 14-4, in the district semifinals and Springfield (M), 10-2, in the championship to win their first district title in four years.

Class-5A

(12-1) Archbishop Wood vs. (3-4) Lampeter-Strasburg >> District 12 champion Archbishop Wood will face District 3 No. 4 seed Lampeter-Strasburg at 5 p.m. at Arcadia University.

Wood claimed the District 12 crown behind an 18-strikeout performance from junior pitcher Marisa Browne in a 7-0 win over Franklin Towne Charter.

The Vikings lost in the quarterfinals of the Philadelphia Catholic League playoffs after finishing first in the regular season.

Class-6A

(1-2) Perk Valley vs. (11-2) Parkland >> District 1 No. 2 seed Perk Valley will face District 11 No. 2 seed Parkland at 5 p.m. at Methacton High School.

The Vikings lost to Avon Grove, 3-0, in the district final Thursday.
Pitcher Abby Wild gives Perk Valley a chance in any game. She’s totaled more than 200 strikeouts this season.

(1-3) Spring-Ford vs. (12-1) St. Huberts >> District 1 No. 3 seed Spring-Ford will face District 12 champion St. Huberts at 12:30 p.m. at Arcadia University.

The Rams lost to Perk Valley in the District 1 semifinals, 5-1, but bounced back with a 10-2 win over Coatesville in the third-place game.
