Dempsey hits milestone as Owen J. Roberts downs Garnet Valley for third place

Following Tuesday night’s loss in the semifinal round of the District One Class 3A playoffs, Owen J. Roberts head coach Joe Tornetta stressed that his players weren’t in over their heads — they were right where they belonged.

On Thursday night, the Wildcats proved it.

Owen J. Roberts was all over Garnet Valley from the very beginning of the third-place game, jumping out to a quick start and cruising to a 9-5 win over the Jaguars.

Senior Anna Dempsey registered a game-high four goals, her fourth serving as the 200th of her career, while Eloise Gebert scored twice and added an assist for OJR (20-3). Danika Swech scored two goals while Rachel Sharpe added another in front of Mia Tornetta’s 10-save showing in goal.

Riley Delaney paced Garnet with three goals while Regan Nealon and Madi McKee each scored once.

With the win, OJR will face Easton, the No. 2 seed out of District 11, in the first round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs next Tuesday at a site and time yet to be determined.
