This time, Interboro gets the best of Marple Newtown

It looked like a repeat of Marple Newtown’s one-run win over the Bucs two weeks ago, until Interboro pitcher Bridget Bailey settled in.

Bailey whiffed 13 and allowed just five hits after she walked the first two batters and gave up two runs in the top of the first inning. The junior ace led the Bucs to a 5-2 victory in the opening round of the District 1 Class 5A tournament.

Interboro hosts Springfield in the quarterfinals Friday.

It took a little longer for the offense to get going. Sam Bellano put Interboro ahead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Bucs tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to ice it and set up a quarterfinal meeting with Springfield.

Bellano had two hits. Kate Patton also had two hits and one RBI.
