Hahn homers as Marple Newtown offense erupts, ousts Unionville

Scott Hahn belted a three-run homer in the first inning and had five RBIs to lead No. 5 Marple Newtown to a 13-1 shellacking of 14th-seeded Unionville in the quarterfinal round of the District 1 Class 5A tournament Wednesday.

The Tigers host No. 10 Upper Moreland, which upset No. 2 Holy Ghost Prep, in the semifinals Friday.

MN plated five runs in the first inning and never looked back. Cameron Mathes, who pitched a shutout in the opening round, was 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Luke Cantwell added an RBI double for the Tigers.

Alden Mathes yielded three hits and no walks with six strikeouts over four innings to get the win. The Tigers had six players get two or more hits.
