It was déjà vu for Cardinal O’Hara’s Schola Eburuoh and Lorielle Laforest.
A year ago they led the way as the Lions piled up 38 team points on the first day of the District 12 Class 3A Track & Field Championships at Benjamin Johnson Stadium.
Eburuoh and Laforest came up big again Wednesday to give O’Hara a 9.5-point lead over Archbishop Ryan after the first day of competition.
Eburuoh set the meet record in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 5½ inches and won the high jump for the second time with a jump of 5-0. Laforest led a 1-2 O’Hara finish in the shot put for the second year in a row with a heave of 35-9½. Teammate Olivia Riley was second. Eburuoh, Laforest and Riley automatically qualified for next weekend’s PIAA Championships.
Hannah Oropollo won the pole vault (9-6) to earn a second straight trip to Shippensburg. Teammate Hannah Bierling had a good day to help the Pandas move into third place after the first day of competition. Bierling was third in the shot put for the second straight year and fourth in the discus.
Archbishop Carroll’s Lamar Ramsey was the only Delco athlete to medal on the boys side. He was fourth in the triple jump (40-5).
