Haverford School had to have a lot of things fall its way to win the Inter-Ac League boys lacrosse title outright for the third year in a row.
First, the Fords had to win their final four games of the league season. They also needed some help from archrival Episcopal Academy to make the three-peat possible.
As it turned out, the stars were aligned in Haverford School’s favor.
T.J. Malone collected four goals and two assists as the Fords topped Springside Chestnut Hill, 11-5, in the pouring rain Saturday to win the league title.
Episcopal Academy set the stage for the Fords to win the championship outright, when the Churchmen rallied from a four-goal, halftime deficit Friday to beat Malvern Prep, handing the Friars their third league loss of the season.
The Fords took care of the rest with a seven-goal outburst in the second half Saturday to beat the Blue Devils.
Johnny Nostrant added two goals and one assist, while Luke O’Grady also had two goals for the Fords, who enter the Inter-Ac Challenge as the No. 1 team out of the league. Haverford School earned a first-round bye and will play the winner of the game between the Hun School and Germantown Academy in Wednesday’s quarterfinals at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken.
Episcopal Academy is the No. 2 seed out of the Inter-Ac and will play the winner of Monday’s game between Academy of the New Church and Springside Chestnut Hill in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
