Freshman Cowley provides Marple Newtown with perfect relief in upset win

Freshman pitcher Rachel Cowley retired all six hitters she faced to earn the save as Marple Newtown upset Interboro, 11-6.

Grace Thorne paced the Tigers (6-11) at the plate with three hits and four RBIs. Brianna Clark was 3-for-3 and Ally DeFruscio hit a double.

All-Delco catcher Amber Seamen and Barb Caroli (three RBIs) each had a double and a triple for Interboro.

In other nonleague action:

Ridley 4, Chichester 0 >> All-Delco Leigh Ann Jenkins twirled a two-hit gem with nine strikeouts. The Green Raiders were led offensively by freshman Anna Torrens, who went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Heather Bogardus (triple) and Gabby DiNardo each rapped two hits.

Delco Christian 17, Sacred Heart 8 >> Kendall Clarke smacked a two-run double and Chandler Harvey and Ronnie Falasco each collected three RBIs for the Knights (9-9).

Garnet Valley 10, Pottsgrove 7 >> Lindsey Hunt continues to torture opposing pitchers as the Jags sophomore catcher was 2-for-2 with a homer, two walks and three RBIs.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Notre Dame 4, Agnes Irwin 0 >> Grace Jackson has exceeded expectations in her first season with the Irish. The freshman pitcher struck out 12 Owls and has 114 Ks in 12 games this season.

Jackson, Sophia Marlino and Bianca Rosato all doubled for Notre Dame. Erin Mahoney had two singles and scored a run.

Episcopal Academy 18, Germantown Academy 5 >> Maddie Loughead finished 4-for-4 with a homer, a double and four ribbies for EA. Belle Volatile added a homer, a two-bagger and two RBIs while Grace Smith legged out two triples and drove in three runs. Piper Hartman collected two hits and an RBI.

In the Bicentennial League:

Christian Academy 15, Phil-Mont Christian 3 >> Lindsey Haseltine punished Phil-Mont pitching with three hits, including two doubles, and six RBIs for the Crusaders (8-7, 7-7). Courtney Bailey had a wail of a game defensively and chipped in with two hits. Carly Ryle, who was the winning pitcher, smacked two doubles. In Catholic League action:

Cardinal O’Hara 2, Little Flower 1 >> Jenna Smith blasted a two-run homer and pitched seven spectacular, three-hit innings with seven strikeouts. Lexi Galli doubled for the Lions.

Bonner-Prendergast 4, Bishop Hallahan 1 >> Molly McNulty pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts and just one walk and Katlyn Martin had a big day with the bat to lead the Pandas. Martin drilled an RBI-double and a two-run triple in the fourth for BP (13-5, 8-4). Melissa Callahan scored twice and Cari Quinn added an RBI.

The sixth-seeded Pandas will play at No. 3 O’Hara in the quarterfinal round of the Catholic League playoffs next Thursday.
