Strath Haven’s Xandy Hammitt and Clay Gaieski captured the Central League Doubles Tournament championship Saturday at the HealthPlex in Springfield.
As the No. 3 seed in the tournament, the Hammitt-Gaieski pairing downed No. 4 Isaac Goldenberg and Samarth Gowda of Harriton in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
The Panthers’ top twosome advanced to the final with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lower Merion’s Sesan Adebamgbe and Jared Robinson, who were ranked No. 2 in the tournament.
The No. 1 pairing of Radnor’s Max Safanov and Robert Frigerio fell in the quarterfinal round Friday. They rebounded with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Strath Haven’s Phinneas L’Armand and George Steinke in the consolation semifinals. Safanov and Frigerio completed a solid showing in the tournament with a 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 success over teammates Alex Weiss and Jonathan Davis for fifth place. Weiss and Davis were seeded sixth.
