Delco Track & Field Championships: Penn Wood’s Manyeah wins another high jump

The first time Penn Wood’s Dennis Manyeah topped the 6-6 mark in a high jump event was when he won the event at the boys Delco Track & Field Championships last year.

The senior did not equal his career best Thursday, but he did come away with a second straight county title with a leap of 6-4 at Interboro’s South Avenue Athletic Complex.

The high jump was one of five championships decided in the two-day championship meet. Champions in the 3,200-meter run, triple jump, discus and javelin also crowned Thursday. All other finals are Saturday starting at 4:30.

Ryan James kept Cardinal O’Hara’s string of victories alive in the 3,200. He won in 9:20.80 to extends O’Hara’s streak to five. His older brother, Kevin, was a three-time winner from 2013-2015. Rob Morro won it last year.

Strath Haven picked up a pair of gold medals. Dayo Abeeb won the triple jump (42-6½), while teammate Cooper Driscoll took first in the javelin with a throw of 165-5. Cooper had a personal best throw of 171-3 at the Penn Relays.

Semaj Robinson of Glen Mills continued his dominance in the discus. He unleashed a career-best heave of 151-7 to take home the gold medal.
