Springfield’s Todaro belts one down fairway for a win

Whether it’s golf or baseball, Andrew Todaro exists to swing away.
On Thursday the Springfield cleanup batter blasted a bases-loaded triple to fuel a five-run seventh inning rally, lifting the Central League-leading Cougars to a 9-6 win over Strath Haven.
Mike Smith homered and Andrew Paulus drove in two runs for the Cougars, who maintained their grip on first. Dave Strawley pitched two innings, scattering two hits and one earned run, to get the win.
Losing pitcher Evan Atsaves and Brendan Ricciardi (double) both went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Panthers, who towed a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning.
Marple Newtown 4, Penncrest 2 >> Cameron Mathes pitched six strong innings as the Tigers registered their second straight league victory. Pitcher Shane Breckenridge and the Lions grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on a balk. Marple broke the game open in the sixth inning with one hit and five walks.
Carmen Christiana, Kevin Merrone and Bobby Steven drove in runs for the Tigers. Sam Freedom tripled and Max King contributed one RBI for the Lions.
Haverford 9, Upper Darby 2 >> Dylan Resnick went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to spark the Fords. Chris Trainor and Finn O’Brian (two hits) drove in two runs apiece in support of winning pitcher Dan Kelleher.
Lower Merion 4, Ridley 3 >> T.J. McNeely and Liam Thompson smacked two hits apiece for the Green Raiders. Losing pitcher Andrew Hallett scattered four hits, struck out six and allowed just one earned run.
In Del Val action:
Chichester 13, Glen Mills 0 >> Jason Riberio (double) drove in three runs and Joe Renzi and Andrew Rodriguez (double) plated two runs each to lead Chi (11-3, 10-1) to victory.
Matt Dwyer added a triple in support of winning pitcher Ryan Boyers, who allowed just two hits in four innings.
Chi meets Interboro Monday with the Del Val crown on the line.
Interboro 13, Penn Wood 3 >> Winning pitcher Zach Halliday’s two-run single broke open a close game. Brandon Welden and Joey Pitts both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Bucs (12-2, 11-1).
Academy Park 9, Chester 1 >> Matt Thomas pitched five innings of two-hit, 11-strikeout ball and ripped a double to power the Knights (6-5, 6-4). Nick Wisely went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Chris Thomas slugged a double for AP.
In Inter-Ac action:
Episcopal Academy 10, Germantown Academy 0 >> Kyle Virbitsky pitched a two-hit shutout and Isaiah Payton went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Virbitsky struck out 10 and scattered five walks.
Penn Charter 6, Haverford School 0 >> The Fords (12-11) managed just one hit, by Isaiah Winikur, off winning pitcher Brendan Cellucci, who struck out eight in seven innings. Joe Lancelotti drilled a pair of homers, leading to three RBIs for PC.
In Ches-Mont League action:
Rustin 5, Sun Valley 4 >> Ryan Duplicki (double) and Casey Crockett (double) both went 2-for-4 and Evan Fooks doubled in a run but the host Vanguards (4-11) saw their late rally fall short.
In Bicentennial League action:
Cavalry Baptist 12, The Christian Academy 1 >> Jake Sitkowski doubled and Luke Sareyka drove him in for the only run for TCA (1-10, 1-9).
