Rodzewich, Pennridge run past Hatboro-Horsham

HORSHAM >> There are different ways to attack the transition game in lacrosse.

Pennridge goes at it with speed and when the Rams have room to run, they’re quite dangerous. The Rams took advantage of a lot of room on Hatboro-Horsham’s turf field Thursday night and had their offense humming.

Jen Rodzewich scored six times to lead Pennridge to a 15-3 win under the lights.

Olivia Tice gave the Hatters a good start with a quick goal, but things quickly shifted to the visitor’s favor. Rodzewich scored to level the game with 18:08 left in the first half, kicking off a 4-0 Pennridge run.

Rodzewich was quite active in the spree, with two goals and assisting two scores by Maddie Dachowski.

The Hatters couldn’t stem the tide thanks to a number of careless turnovers and an inability to recover groundballs after a Pennridge shot. Pennridge rang the post four times in the opening frame, and goalie Arielle Hammer made nine stops but the Rams just kept coming. Speed in transition, coupled with the Hatters’ turnovers kept Pennridge rolling on attack.

Hatboro-Horsham’s Kaitlyn Wallace ended the run with a spectacular solo effort, juking a defender then depositing a goal while falling down on her shot. That play aside, the Hatters didn’t do themselves any favors on offense with a lot of shots going right into the stick of goalie Alexa Machado.

Pennridge finished the first half on another 4-0 spurt with Dachowski netting her third and Rodzewich adding two more. The Hatters also took a big blow when senior Gwyn Acker picked up her second yellow card of the first half with 3:35 left, keeping her out of the rest of the game.

Grace Loughery kept things going for Pennridge to start the second half by taking a long solo run down the field and putting one past Hammer. Hatboro-Horsham’s defense was out of sorts all game and the communication that’s been its strength was all season not there.

Rodzewich was a factor all over the field, from draw controls to defensive interceptions and especially the offensive end.

After Wallace scored to make it 10-3, it was all Rams to finish off the game. Macy and Emily Price scored, followed by two more from Rodzewich and Kate Ziegler’s second finished it off.

Pennridge is scheduled to face North Penn on Friday afternoon.
