DeBernardi’s OT heroics keep Springfield streak alive

Springfield’s 12th straight win was the diciest yet.

Joey DeBernardi capped his hat trick with the game-winning goal in double overtime off a feed from Liam DiFonzo to lead the Cougars past Hatboro-Horsham, 6-5, in nonleague boys lacrosse action Saturday.

Mike Tulskie scored twice, and Kyle Long added a goal and three assists. James Spence made 15 saves in goal for the Cougars (12-2).

In other nonleague action:

Ridley 14, Abington 4 >> Cade Stratton dished four assists to go with a hat trick, and Sean Crowley, Brock Anderson and Zane Johnston each tallied three goals and two assists for the Green Raiders.

Haverford 17, Unionville 4 >> Luke McCallion had himself a day, going 17-for-20 at the X and scoring six times to go with an assist.

Jack Daly added three goals and three assists, and Nick DiIorio augmented his hat trick with two helpers. John Sheivert added two goals and an assist for the Fords (10-5).

Penncrest 7, Wissahickon 6 >> Zack Kaut scored the overtime game-winner for the Lions, but per coach Wayne Matsinger, it was tinged with controversy with the Lions having too many men on the field.

In any event, Joe Quintiliano scored twice, and David Stevens and Max Daugherty each paired a goal with an assist. Cody Hershock made nine saves in goal.

Girls Lacrosse

Allie Zubyk scored five times to go with two assists, and Monica Lebaudy paired a hat trick with an assist as Delco Christian came from behind to top Conestoga Christian, 12-11.

Taylor Mingle (two assists) and Allison Levis (assist) netted two apiece, while Isabelle Brewster stopped 12 shots.

In other nonleague action:

Sun Valley 18, Upper Darby 8 >> Anna Brown, Abby Seasock and Liz Johnson netted four times each, Brown adding four assists, and Hannah Maggio bagged a hat trick for the Vanguards.

Makenzie McGinnis chipped in two goals, and Alexis Colasante stopped 10 shots for Sun Valley.

Rachel Feldmayer and Violet Lange led Upper Darby with two goals each.
