Eberhardt marks first start with a gem for Springfield

Springfield’s Colin Eberhardt made his first varsity start a memorable one.

The junior scattered four hits and struck out nine in 6⅔ innings of shutout ball as Springfield topped Chichester, 2-0, in nonleague action Friday.

Eddie Ronyane got the final out for the save for Springfield. Andrew Paulus and Jared Morris (two hits) drove in runs in the sixth inning to make Eberhardt’s hard work stand up.

Jason Ribierio collected two of Chichester’s four hits. Hunter Killinen worked four shutout innings for the Eagles.

In the Central League:

Penncrest 5, Upper Darby 1 >> Sam Freedman doubled and drove in two runs, while Shane Breckinridge got the win with five innings of three-hit ball. Justin Prorock got the final six outs for the save.

Mike Lansberry added two hits and an RBI for the Lions.

In the Del Val League:

Interboro 13, Academy Park 1 >> Mike Ventura and Brandon Welden each provided two hits and two RBIs, and Ventura did the job on the mound to get a win as the Bucs never looked back from a six-run first inning.

Billy Martin doubled for Academy Park.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Penn Charter 5, Episcopal Academy 2 >> Kyle Virbitsky surrendered two unearned runs in five innings to get the no-decision. Cam Van Hoorbeke drove in both of EA’s runs with the Churchmen’s only hit of the game in the third inning to tie matters, but the Quakers pulled ahead in the top of the sixth inning.

Malvern Prep 4, Haverford School 0 >> Joe Bonini provided two of the Fords’ three hits out of the nine spot, but that’s all the Fords would get against Malvern Prep starter Billy Corcoran, who struck out four and walked none in seven spotless innings.

Malvern Prep notched just three hits, one a solo home run by Shane Muntz, who scored twice.

In the Ches-Mont League:

Octorara 12, Sun Valley 7 >> There was no coming back from eight errors by the Vanguards Friday.

Dino Karros and Ryan Duplicki doubled for Sun Valley, while Dom Valente provided two hits to extend his hitting streak to eight games.
