Chichester’s doubles strength helps keep record spotless

Academy Park pushed undefeated Chichester to the brink, but the Eagles rallied to show why they’ve yet to taste defeat in Del Val play by downing the Knights, 3-2.

Tom Baney and Ricky Van Newkirk outlasted the Knights’ Mel Schoolfield and Sahmir Blackwell in a 6-2, 6-7 (7-3), 6-4 decision that highlighted the Eagles’ victory.

Joey Hagel downed Kevin Tran, 6-1, 6-2, in a battle of the Del Val’s top two singles players. Phi Tang and Abdulai Gassoma recorded singles wins for AP (5-7, 4-4).

Glen Mills 3, Penn Wood 2 >> Matt Salisbury dropped the first set, only to storm back and win the next two to grab a win at No. 1 singles and Clifford Ford won in straight sets at No. 3 singles to help the Bulls run past the Patriots.

John Kpankpa cleaned up at No. 2 singles for Penn Wood.

In the Central League:

Haverford 5, Springfield 2 >> Andrew Field’s 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles helped jumpstart the Fords’ comeback from an 0-2 hole and the duo of Scott Kaplan and Sammy Ortiz closed it out with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win for Haverford (3-6).

Mike Bonacquisti won, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles for the Cougars.

Garnet Valley 6, Upper Darby 1 >> Brandon Caban gave the Royals an early lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, but Eric Burns (6-1, 6-3) and Eddie King (6-2, 6-1) cleaned up their singles matchups as part of the Jaguars’ triumph.

Radnor 7, Marple Newtown 0 >> The Raiders (11-2), backed by singles wins from Max Safanov, Alex Weiss and Jonathan Davis, didn’t drop a set en route to the win.

In the Ches-Mont League:

West Chester Rustin 7, Sun Valley 0 >> The tandem of Sean Setnick and Preet Patel put up a fight for the Vanguards, falling, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
