When the pressure was turned up, Alayna Lloyd never backed down.
With a runner on second in the bottom of the eighth inning of a tie game with Unionville, the Sun Valley freshman came through in spades when she cracked a single that brought home Kylie Kane for the game-winning run in a 9-8 Ches-Mont League softball triumph.
The Vanguards (7-5 overall and league) stormed out to an 8-0 lead before the Indians tied it up with four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Nonetheless, Sun Valley kept its composure and Lloyd came through as the crown jewel of her 3-for-5, two-run, one-RBI day.
Bridget Thomas drove in three runs and scored twice as part of a 3-for-4 day, while Carli Williams tripled, drove in a run, scored once and reached base three times.
In the Central League:
Haverford 9, Marple Newtown 4 >> The Fords (6-1 overall, 5-1 league) raced out to an 8-0 lead thanks to a pair of RBIs from Ali Murphy and Lindsay Moran, and Heather Lazer cracked a pair of triples to make Gabrielle Gentile a winner.
Penncrest 11, Upper Darby 4 >> Annalise McLarnon slugged a two-run home run, Olivia Rigby tripled as part of a 3-for-5, two-run, two-RBI day and Tori Boland reached base four times and scored thrice as the Lions (11-0) stayed unbeaten.
Sam Witmer doubled in the losing effort.
In the Bicentennial League:
Dock Mennonite 15, The Christian Academy 1 >> Oksana Specht gave the Crusaders (3-6, 3-6) an early lead by singling home Marissa Mack, while Grace Gormley later added a double, but TCA couldn’t keep pace with Dock.
